The clutch is working smoothly. But the throw is a bit short. I’m working on the pedal linkage now. I’ll pick up a clutch master soon and put it in. Both of those repairs should fix it.
This new slave pivot makes the total length 20 thousandths longer, not 2 thousandths as I said in the video. The original part was 32 years old !! Recent drives show the clutch is operating smooth as silk !!
Here is where I found the best deal for the pivot: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008VQ0E3S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
With a few simple home made tools, and 3 neighbors, the trans is bolted to the engine !!! Found the lost u-joint cap. The new nylon clutch push rod cap is still lost !!!
This XJ now has the flywheel, clutch disk, and pressure plate bolted in place. Just need to bolt the transmission/transfercase to the engine to finish the job !!!
The test fitting of the pressure plate to the flywheel, found one of the threaded holes was rough. Running a hardware store tap through the hole made the diameter so large the bolt stripped out when it was torqued down. So the 8mm hole had to be repaired with a HeliCoil insert. The holes in flywheels, blocks etc, are not tapped, they are rolled so they fit the bolts tighter. This causes less cracking and failure.
