Ceramic Bearings from Boca

December 2001 -The final response from Michael at Boca bearings was that they have never had their ceramic bearings fail like mine did, and they could not see that the bearings had actually failed. So they offered me a store credit for the $150 that I spent on their ceramic bearings. I wanted a refund. With 4 different sizes of bearings, how could they all have some degree of failure ranging from mild to severe after only one hour of flying the heli?? We will never know....

August 26, 27 2001 - Last week the Shuttle received new Ceramic bearings from Boca Bearings in Florida. Two ceramic engine bearings, two ceramic clutch bearings, and two ceramic tail rotor shaft bearings. The rear engine bearing seized. The front engine bearing developed a huge amount of endplay. The upper clutch bearing became very noisy and rough. Both tail rotor bearings had noticeable drag in them. I oiled these bearings with Tri-Flow oil after getting the OK from Boca Bearings.

Total time of use: 1 hour.

The huge amount of time that it took to install, test, remove, and replace these bearings make these failures a big deal. If I had not had the week before the Sacramento race off of work, I would not have made the contest at all! Boca Bearings will be hearing from me!!
